Last July 4, 2013, Red Ribbon, together with Franklin Baker Company and Apl.de.Ap Foundation, launched a new project which will enable us to help bridge the education gap in the Philippines, the “Red Ribbon Macaroons for a Cause”.
The event was held at the Teatrino Music Hall in Greenhills and was hosted by the well known RX 93.1’s DJ, Delamar. Food and drinks were served while the guests waited for the main program to start. See that pasta primavera over there? The pasta lover in me loves it so much! Yummy!
“Macaroons For A Cause” is our newest offering that lets you create more sweet moments with your family and friends,” says Zinnia Rivera, General Manager of Red Ribbon. “With each pack you buy, you’ll be giving our youth a better future through the gift of education,” she continues.
Sharon Chandran, Chairperson of the Franklin Baker Company, a global natural ingredient company and the leading branded coconut ingredient establishment in the United States flew to Manila to share this message, “As we celebrate 90 years in the Philippines, this is our way of thanking the country and sharing the natural goodness of Franklin Baker Company’s ingredients. The coconut taste and quality that will be experienced in “Red Ribbon Macaroons for a Cause” is the same “gold standard” that Franklin Baker delivers to its food customers in the US. We congratulate Red Ribbon for only choosing the best ingredients for its customers.”
Allan Pineda of Angeles City, Pampanga, more popularly known as apl.de.ap of the world-famous pop sensation The Black Eyed Peas, knows from his own experience that education is the only ticket to a better life. “I just wanted to have an education–to have a better life. In every Filipino family, the children want to help their parents–that was my goal,” he shares.
Macaroons for a Cause aims to build public schools in the Philippines by donating 14% or P7 for each pack sold to the Apl.de.Ap Foundation. Each Macaroons for a Cause pack contains 10 pieces of macaroons and sells for P50 at all Red Ribbon Bakeshops nationwide. The group needs to sell 4.2 million packs in order to build the first school of the foundation. Isn’t this a cool and fun way of helping Filipino children to get the education they deserve? I’ve been buying these macaroons since college (especially during New Year’s Eve) that’s why I was so thrilled to find out that I can actually help a lot of unfortunate kids just by sharing my addiction and encouraging others to buy too!
After the speakers formally launched the Cause, Apl.de.Ap owned the center stage by singing 3 songs for the audience – We Can Be Anything (An education campaign song. Watch the official video here.), Where Is The Love, and the hit single, Bebot.
Apl.de.Ap got the crowd to sing along and dance with him. It was a fun afternoon concert party!
But of course, this event isn’t complete without the macaroons! So here they are, freshly baked and looking delicious as always! Free taste for everyone!
Delamar closed the event with the Macaroons for a Cause countdown which will be displayed at all Red Ribbon branches.
