Slow Down Year

I finally got some downtime today so I thought maybe I should take this chance to sit down and actually start writing a new blog post-- my first post of the year. How it is already mid-September is beyond me. Seriously, where did time go? Summer was gone in the blink of an eye. Is it just me or does it feel like time goes by faster as we get older?

So now that we're down to the last four months of the year, I think it's time to do some reflection. How is your 2019 going so far? Mine has been...pretty steady. Which isn't bad at all, at least at this point in my life. The past two years have been all about change and adjustment so I'm actually happy that somehow, now, I'm starting to feel settled.

Even though it seems there isn't enough time in a day to finish the things I had set out to do, and I'm always either sleeping late or waking up in the wee hours of the morning so I could tick items off my to-do list, I consider 2019 as my 'slow down' year. I didn't travel as much this year because I decided to tweak my priorities a little bit and focus more on my long term goals.

By long term goals I mean my finances. It's funny how adulting changes you, like how I'm so obsessed now with financial planning, investments, all the fun stuff. I'm so into it that recently I almost made a huge investment but later on decided it's not yet the right time. I know some of you would say timing will never be perfect and that I just have to go do it--I get it, I thought about that too. If there's one person in this room who's gonna tell you to never be afraid to take risks, trust me, it's going to be me. But we're talking about finances here, a huge amount of money and though I really wanted to do it, there was this battle going on relentlessly inside my head. I know I wasn't ready yet and I felt bad because a lot of time and efforts were wasted on the process (not just mine but other people's too).

I guess my takeaway from this experience is to not make any decisions when mercury is in retrograde. Lol kidding! Seriously, it's to think things through before coming up with a decision, especially a major one. I got so excited with the idea that my impulsiveness got the best of me and also cause I'm so used to figuring things out as I go through them. Well, at least now I know that doesn't apply to everything. lol

I would've pushed through with it if the situation had been different. I'm not saying I'm not gonna do it in the future, I'm still considering the thought. It's just that for now I have to invest in myself first, learn more about it and come up with a better plan. We all gotta start somewhere, and it's fine to start small if you have to.

Speaking of, I started a few things this year. First on the list is the online photography class I've been doing for a while now. So far it's going well. I'm enjoying it, just taking it slow. Admittedly, I didn't expect it to be a long course. I'm halfway through it now which means I have to do some photo projects. I plan to work on them before this month ends so I barely have 2 weeks left. Good luck to me!

I kept myself busy this past summer by trying my hand at golf, pilates and running. I like pilates because I feel like it complements spin/indoor cycling which I've been doing for over a year now. I may not look like I workout but I do and I actually enjoy it! As for running and golf.. I don't mind doing them as long as I'm with good company. I'm not 100% into them but I'm all about trying and learning new things so it's cool. Also gives me reason to stay outdoors and enjoy the precious sunshine!

Blogging-wise, I feel like I'm stuck in a creative rut right now. I've been kind of stuck for years now since I stopped doing personal style posts in 2014. But I didn't mind it until recently when I was going through my old blog posts and realized how driven and focused I seemed to be back in the day. I mean, I had limited resources back then but still I made some decent content. So it got me thinking.. what changed? When people ask me why I haven't been blogging as much now, I would always say 'I've been busy' or 'life gets in the way', but I think maybe I'm just using those as excuses because the truth is, I've been uninspired.

I've heard so many stories from bloggers, artists, creative people who have gone through this phase. It's common and normal--inspiration and motivation come and go. We don't wake up everyday feeling our best selves and that's why it's so important to master the art of self-awareness. Oh it's my favorite skill! And you sure bet I've honed it enough by now! lol

You may feel uninspired and unmotivated to do things you know deep inside you are interested in. It's okay to take a break, reflect and try again. If the thought keeps bugging you, it wouldn't hurt to give it another shot. After all, you owe it to yourself to show up every single day.

So yeah, that's why I'm writing this post now even though I don't really have a topic in mind. Thought I should just go ahead and wing it! lol

Photos in this post were taken at some of the coffee shops/brunch spots I've been to in my past travels. I miss cafe hopping sooo much! Definitely one of the things I miss doing ever since I moved. I'm kinda bummed out that I can't do it as often as I would like to anymore, so whenever I travel I always make it a point to check out local cafes as well as shops!

Cafe hopping also makes me miss my mom (and my dad too) aka my cafe hopping buddy. It's one of the activities we liked to do on Sundays after church  hence the 'Sundays with Mom' page on my blog.

While I'm figuring out how to get my creative juices flowing, I'm probably gonna update and change up a few things on my blog. That's what I do when I get bored, I revamp! lol Real-world it's my apartment, virtual it's my blog. :P

So 'til my next post hopefully before the year ends. Happy Fall! Enjoy it while it lasts cause you know what's coming after. lol  Ta-ta!
